Discover the secret to pura vida-Costa Rica's inimitable zest for life. Soak up the vibrant atmosphere before joining your travel companions for a Welcome Reception at 6 p.m.
Embark on an adventure heading toward Poás Volcano coffee country, along the way visiting a working coffee plantation to learn about its rich history, which dates back to the 18th century. Travelling through lush tropical rainforests, home to the endangered great green macaw, your journey takes us to Sarapiquí and Hacienda Pozo Azul where the Quintana family share fascinating insights into their unique way of life over a traditional Be My Guest lunch. Then travel toward the active volcano, Arenal, where an afternoon of relaxation awaits in your hotel's steamy hot springs.
The day begins at the wildlife rescue centre, Proyecto Asis, where we have the rare opportunity to interact with some of Costa Rica's native animals, many of which are rehabilitated for their eventual return to the wild. After a tasty traditional lunch, be treated to a Cultural Insight, a performance by local children who dance to the sounds of calypso music before heading to Arenal Hanging Bridges. Here you'll get to interact with brightly coloured birds, cheeky monkeys and slow-moving sloths all while surrounded by luscious landscapes.
Today, travel to the land of the sabanero cowboy to traverse through picturesque forests, past hot springs and beneath wondrous waterfalls to reach the imposing Rincón de la Vieja. Here you will enjoy a unique opportunity to spend two relaxing nights on the slopes of this magnificent volcano.
The day is free for you to explore any number of exciting activities, such as ziplining, biking or hiking up a jungle clad mountain for a bird's eye glimpse of Guanacaste's spectacular Pacific coastline. Trek to hidden waterfalls, hear the astonishingly loud sound of cicadas and look out for beautiful butterflies, spider monkeys and the brightly coloured beaks of toucans. If you prefer to lay back and relax, immerse yourself in a thermal hot spring or enjoy the sensation of a natural steam room.
The village of Carrillo is famed for its crescent-shaped beach and the beautiful backdrop of mountainous forests that form beyond it. Here you will stay for the next two nights and get to venture into the verdant landscape that makes up Palo Verde National Park where the Tempisque River also flows. Enjoy lunch together in the park before heading back to the beachside retreat of Carrillo for more rest and relaxation.
Today is yours to soak up the sun and simple life on Playa Carrillo where you can read, sunbathe or enjoy a beachside picnic. Hop on a shuttle to nearby Samara for a lunch and some souvenir shopping or choose to embark on an optional experience to explore Costa Rica's pristine coastline, which offers an assortment of activities, such as kayaking, snorkelling or surfing.
After a leisurely start to the morning, head back toward San Jose with a stop at Los Angeles Cloud Forest. This secluded private reserve protects more than 347 species of birds, as well as an assortment of plant life, like ferns, mosses and orchids. Later, share experiences with your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner.
Your journey through Costa Rica and the land of pura vida comes to its end as we take you back to Juan Santamaría International Airport to catch your flight home or choose to extend your stay at the Studio Hotel in San José.
