Day 1: UK – Budapest
We fly to Budapest in Hungary where our ship awaits. You can then relax onboard as we begin cruising along the Danube.
Day 2: Budapest
This morning we have time to explore Budapest. To help get your bearings, you could join our optional city tour, which introduces you to some of the most prominent highlights of the city known as the ‘pearl of the Danube’. These include the 700-year-old Matthias Church, Parliament building – a magnificent example of neo-gothic architecture, and Buda Castle, which rises 48 metres above the river. In the afternoon join our optional excursion which takes you through the sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse. Here we visit a traditional stud farm and enjoy a tour of the grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, before watching a spectacular live Puszta horse show. We set sail in the late afternoon and cruise towards Bratislava.
Day 3: Bratislava
Today we arrive in Bratislava, the historic capital of Slovakia which is dominated by its castle. There’s also the unique suspension bridge, another key landmark, announced as the building of the century when it opened in 1972. Join our optional guided tour to take in the main sights and experience the rich culture in and around the old town.
Day 4: Vienna
Enjoy a full day experiencing the delights of Vienna. Grand palaces, baroque castles, magnificent squares and striking monuments are just some of the key features of this beautiful world heritage city. In the morning you can join our optional city tour and in the afternoon we have an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace, which takes you on a journey through time as we explore some of the 1,441 rooms. You also have the option to see this beautiful city lit up at night, before we cast off later this evening.
Day 5: Melk
We arrive in the Austrian city of Melk, which is filled with cobbled streets and attractive buildings. It is also overlooked by one of the most splendid monastic houses in Austria – the Benedictine Abbey, which you can visit on our optional excursion. We continue cruising upriver to Passau.
Day 6: Passau – UK
This morning we bid farewell to our captain and crew and disembark our ship for the return flight to the UK.
